Backing Beats

Take a break from the metronome! Playing along to backing beats is a great alternative to playing with a metronome. It’s good fun, great for your time keeping and you can try all sorts of interesting things such as displaced beats and more advanced polyrhythms. Don’t ditch the metronome completely! Having the ability to play to a click is an invaluable skill all drummers should learn, but this helps develop a good sense of time and gives you a nice break from playing to endless clicks and beeps 🙂
